The MACBA Foundation organises a meeting with the new curatorial team to present the 2017 schedule
The cultural institution joins Círculo Fortuny
“For the MACBA Foundation it is a privilege to be a part of Círculo Fortuny as an honorary member. We work to create an artistic heritage for the museum and the city, a legacy so future generations understand contemporaneity.”
Ainhoa Grandes, Chairwoman of the MACBA Foundation
The MACBA Foundation, the first museum institution in Barcelona to join Círculo Fortuny, organised an exclusive meeting for its collaborators in the Meier Auditorium with the management team of MACBA and the MACBA Foundation.
The event was attended by Ainhoa Grandes, Chairwoman of the MACBA Foundation, who detailed the current projects that enable the MACBA Collection to continue expanding and which build support for the museum through the development of educational and social programmes. She referred to the MACBA Collection as an asset that “identifies and distinguishes the museum, constituting a cultural legacy for the city, bringing art to today’s visitors and writing the collective memory of a nation.”
Museum director, Ferran Barenblit and the new curatorial team comprised of Tanya Barson, chief curator, and Pablo Martínez, head of Public and Educational Programmes, presented the museum’s exhibition schedule and vision of the future, detailing the courses of action and challenges in the coming months.
The MACBA Foundation was founded in 1987 with the aim of promoting the construction of the museum and contributing to the creation of its future art collection. The then-mayor of Barcelona, Pasqual Maragall, together with the businessman Leopoldo Rodés, undertook the initiative, uniting 33 founding companies that, thanks to their generous contributions, acquired the museum’s first pieces. A year later, the MACBA Consortium was created as the museum’s governing body, consisting of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Barcelona City Council, the MACBA Foundation, and—joining in 2007—the Ministry of Culture.
During the presentation it was announced that next year, 2017, the MACBA Foundation will celebrate its 30th anniversary and will organise a series of activities to commemorate its founding.
In addition, to the MACBA Foundation, the Basque Culinary Center, Reina Sofía Music School, Casa Ducal de Medinaceli Foundation, Sorolla Museum Foundation, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Prado Museum, Reina Sofía National Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, Royal Academy of Gastronomy and the Royal Theatre complete the list of honorary members of the association chaired by Mr. Carlos Falcó, Marqués de Griñón.
