Abadía Retuerta winery, it is a stunning combination of tradition and modernity and is recognized as one of the most advanced wineries in Europe, is located on the banks of the Duero River in an area that produces Spain’s most prestigious wines. Our outstanding wines are the result of excellent maturity obtained from a unique terroir which is influenced by the extreme climatic conditions typical of this valley. The winery is dominated by an impressive 12th century Abbey which houses one of the most exclusive 5* hotels and 1* Michelin restaurants in the world: Abadía Retuerta Le Domaine (30 rooms, spa, Vinoteca,…)

WINERY AND VINEYARDS

Technical direction at the winery is under the supervision of Angel Anocibar, Ph.D. in Oenology from the University of Bordeaux. Work procedures are marked out by our consultant, Delbeck Pascal, the French winemaker who designed the Abadía Retuerta winery.  Since 1996, Abadía Retuerta has been making high-quality wines. The estate covers an area of 700 hectares, of which only the best terroirs (soils) have had vineyards planted, distributed in small parcels or plots. A total of 54 plots have been identified with very different characteristics, among which the composition of the soil where the vineyard grows stands out. Each one is planted with a single variety. In total, they are 70% Tempranillo, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah; the remaining 10% is divided between Merlot, Petit Verdot and some white varieties which until the 2011 season were made only experimentally.

 

SUSTAINABILITY AND RESPECT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT

 

Abadía Retuerta has always been concerned about everything surrounding it. For this reason, it has developed a policy of environment respecting measures which are implemented in all the winery’s production processes. Moreover, it can boast that it is the only winery in the world to obtain its own yeast and a native bacterium which keeps it true to its philosophy, such as using technology to preserve its typicity and make its wines the expression of the terroir from which they come.
