“Marqués de Murrieta is committed since 1852 with quality wine sector at national and international level. We are proud to be part of Círculo Fortuny project because we gain strength together to succeed in positioning spanish brands as luxury references.”
H.E. Mr. Vicente Cebrián-Sagarriga, Conde de Creixell, President of Marqués de Murrieta Estates & Wines.
The origins of Marqués de Murrieta go back to the 19th century when Luciano de Murrieta, an entrepreneur well ahead of his time, built the emblematic Castillo de Ygay on his Ygay Estate and made it the headquarters of Marqués de Murrieta winery.
In the castle he replicated the French chateau concept, applying techniques learnt in Bordeaux for the production and ageing of his wines. In 1852, the legend of the first Rioja wines began.
Over the last 20 years, Vicente Dalmau Cebrián-Sagarriga, Conde de Creixell and current Chairman and CEO of Marqués de Murrieta, has revitalised the historic winery, and has developed his exporting activities.
Combined with his profound awareness of business and wine, his youth and intrepid vision have made him an important link between the winery’s history and its future.
